In May 2000, Underdog Entertainment began shooting the documentary Metamorphosis: The Remarkable Life of Granny Lee, exploring the life of South Africa's most notorious party animal, Granny Lee. Produced by Marc Schwinges and Directed byLuiz DeBarros (the team that brought you the award winning documentary "Death") Metamorphosis promises to be yet another gripping, unique television experience.

The project had been presented to the South African Broadcasting Corporation by Underdog a year earlier and in February 2000 it was commissioned by Channel 3's Eddie Manzingana. After extensive research, shooting took place in Johannesburg, Durban and Kimberley over a space of three weeks incorprating both interviews and extensive recreations. The documentary also makes use of an exclusive audio interview recorded shortly before her death as well as her final farewell message played at her wake.

The final 52-minute documentary was first broadcast on SABC 3 on the 30th of July 2000 at 9.00pm. It was re-broadcast due to popular demand on the 15th of September at 10.35pm on SABC 3.

Here you can find out more about Metamorphosis, its making and the people behind and in front of the camera.
